Brother Vazgen, an elder of the Iranian church in London has been a believer for 42 years. 12 years ago, in June 2008, he felt unwell whilst driving. He was rushed to the hospital and went into a coma. The doctors realized that he had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage. He went into coma for 40 days where he had an encounter with God and God gave him another chance to live on this earth. When he came back to consciousness, he had some physical disabilities like limited movements in his body and he was shaking in his hands. He was at the hospital for a total of 4 months. During this time his family were extremely supportive of him day and night. When he went back home, he was still not well physically. He was overwhelmed by his family’s support and by the support of different Christians who would visit him. It was a difficult situation as he used to be very active at work and in the church, but he was not able to do much after this accident. He had raised many questions to God such as why God let him live, if he knew he would suffer physically. Alongside that, he went through many times of hopelessness and depression. But whenever he cried out to God and prayed to him, God would speak to him with a gentle voice. He would strengthen him through passages like psalm 42. This passage and many other similar passages would encourage him to put his hope in God and be strengthened by his presence. As a family they had to deal with an unknown future with him not being able to go back to work anymore. He testifies that God has been supplying for their needs all these years. He emphasises the fact that meditating on the word of God and spending time in God’s presence have been great source of comfort for him in the dark times of his life and he challenges others to do the same too. He is profoundly grateful to his wife and children who have been a great source of comfort and a great support to him all these years. He is truly shining for Jesus. Praise the Lord for the grace of God that has sustained our dear brother all these years.
